Chenille is back, and it is back with a vengeance! This late 1990’s sweater phenomena has returned; much to the chagrin of dryers everywhere! Let’s take a quick trip down chenille memory lane, shall we?

It was the late 1990’s, and for some strange reason we all thought wearing dark lip liner with pale pink, tan, or purple lipstick was attractive. . .um yeah, moving on. . . Sugar Ray was on every radio station from coast to coast, and shopping via the Internet was a scary thing to do. When the weather cooled down, all we wanted was something soft and cozy to keep us comforted and warm; perhaps it was the dark lip liner with pale lipstick trend which was haunting us that made us all seek the comfort of chenille. . . though to ponder, but I digress. . .

Chenille was everywhere. We had chenille sweaters in all styles. We adorned our homes with chenille pillows, throws, blankets, and even upholstery. We all thought this ultra soft yarn woven into plush fabric was the greatest thing since sliced bread and the invention of the CD; until it was time to clean it. This is when the backlash started!

If you have ever owned chenille home goods, you know they wear out; quickly. The more you sit down, and stand up, chenille upholstery wears out, leaving threadbare sofas, chairs, and the like. Yikes! That chenille throw you cuddled up in while watching a movie on the sofa? Yeah, you spilled your hot cocoa on it, and when when you washed it, it became see-through. Your favorite chenille sweater? You washed it and yikes! It was no longer a sweater. The horror! It only took about two years before everyone on the planet figured out chenille was the worst thing since accidentally washing your reds with your whites.

Imagine my horror when I found out chenille was back for a second run in fall 2017! I was like, whaaaaaat????? Oh yes, this soft and alluring fabric pulls you in, then when you try to care for it by washing it, or wearing it too often, it becomes threadbare! Why are we wearing it again? Remind me? Oh, I know!

Chenille for fall 2017 is stronger then it was close to twenty years ago. I can’t speak for home goods, but as far as sweaters go, the new version is washable! Love! So, I decided to roll the dice and invest in a cozy chenille cardigan for the fall 2017 season. What do you think? So far it isn’t shedding, it isn’t getting worn down to the threads after being worn, and I can wash it without holding my breath. It lives! It stays cozy! It stays full of fluffy threads! Love!

So, the moral of the story is that you can buy some of fall 2017’s chenille pieces without worrying about them getting threadbare.

Green fall florals in New York

Wearing: Chanel sunglasses / Banana Republic maxi fall floral dress / Kendra Scott earrings / MAC Lipstick / Chloe handbag / Kendra Scott ring set c/o / Kendra Scott nail polish c/o / Sam Edelman booties (sold out, similar pair online here and here)

Ah! This dress! Have you ever worn something and received compliments everywhere you go? That was this dress in New York! I wore this dress during New York Fashion Week, and to have fashion industry professionals compliment my dress; it was like a dream come true! I couldn’t believe it! I now know, this dress will get worn by me A LOT during the fall season! Love!

Fall florals are a huge trend this fall season. So it is fun to have at least one item in your closet to rock this trend with. This dress is an easy way to wear fall florals. I love how it moves and flows as I walk. It also happens to be quite comfortable! Love that!

Since I was running from show to show, I chose to pair my fall floral dress with low heeled booties. These booties are super comfortable, and helped carry me through the day. Unfortunately they are sold out, but you can find a similar, low-heel pair online here, and a fringe pair here.

I wore this fall floral maxi dress on day five of New York Fashion Week. Day five was a busy day! I attended Irina Vitjaz, Taoray Wang, Leanne Marshall, Vivienne Tam, Anniesa Hasibuan, and I also went to the RewardStyle blogger party. I was on the go! To see coverage of these shows, please check out my NYFW recap online here.

The weather was much cooler on day five than it had been previously in the week. This gave me the opportunity to wear this dress. I was so thankful the humid heat was over! I do not function well in hot humidity. I grew up in the mild climate of the San Francisco Bay Area, I am not accustomed to east coast humidity. It really does me in!

Want to see what’s hot for spring 2017 from the runways of New York? Check out my NYFW trend report online here. I love sharing with you all the fabulous new trends for spring coming out of New York!

Plaid and lace New York Fashion Week street style

Wearing: Chanel sunglasses / MAC lipstick in Fabby / Kendra Scott earrings / Rebecca Taylor dress / Chloe Faye handbag / Kendra Scott ring / Kendra Scott nail polish c/o / Donald J Pliner pewter booties / Sam Edelman black suede fringe booties

Day three of New York Fashion Week was the hottest, and most humid fashion week day I have ever experienced. Words cannot even describe the heat, and the icky humidity! Thankfully this dress was cool and breezy; perfect for a yucky humid day!

I started the day off in my suede booties, but the sky became a bit foreboding with the threat of thunder showers, so in order to save my suede booties, I switched to this pair of pewter leather booties which can sustain some rain. I heard it rained, but I must have been indoors when it did, because I never got caught in it! Whew!

Day three was really fun. I kicked off the day at Dan Liu, which was a romantic collection reminiscent of Paris in the 1960’s. I loved all the vintage inspired, feminine dresses. Next, I was off to Vicky Zhang which was filled with Mother-Daughter apparel. So cute! Then it was time for Rebecca Minkoff. You can read all about it in my blog post here.

After Rebecca Minkoff, it was time for Son Jung Wan’s disco inspired runway show. So much fun! The music was disco, and the people sitting behind me got out of their seats to dance to the music. It was amazing! Then I had a little break to eat some lunch, and edit a few photos before seeing A Detacher’s spring 2017 show, followed by Sally Skoufus’ fine jewelry presentation. It was a full day, and I loved everything I saw. So many great styles coming up for spring 2017!

By day three, the spring 2017 trends were starting to come into focus. There was more blush, denim, jumpers, green, pink, metallics, moto jackets, 1960s influence, 1990s influence, and decadent embellishments. Stay tuned! I will be recapping all the trends from the spring 2017 runways in a separate post. Spring 2017 is going to be fabulous!
