It might not officially be summer 2020 yet, but the weather outside is telling me it it! We have had straight 90’s for several days, and my feet are screaming for summer footwear. So without further ado, here is my summer 2020 shoe capsule wardrobe!

I always love having a pair of espadrille slides I can throw on for almost any occasion. They are great for running errands, walking around, shopping, and heading out to an outdoor lunch. They are also great for a picnic since you can easily kick them on and off while sitting on the grass or a sandy beach. This pair is really comfortable and are quickly becoming my go-to shoe of the summer season.

My capsule wardrobe is also touching on several shoe trends for the summer season. This summer we are looking at the return of the square toe, chunky heels, platforms, all-white sneakers, and wedges. I have a pair which reflects each trend, and functions for every part of life.

Summer 2020 casual everyday shoes

As I mentioned above, these espadrille slides are my go-to shoes of the season. They are easy to kick on and off, and are really comfortable. If you buy one pair of shoes this summer, grab these! Of course, would it be summer without flip flops? These black flip flops have a small platform and are perfect to wear poolside, at the beach, or on hot days as sandals. Love them!

Summer 2020 sneaker trends

sneaker trends summer 2020

Sleek, white sneakers are all the rage this summer 2020 season. I love this pair from adidas. They are really comfortable and right on-trend. Of course this pair of Gucci platform sneakers have been in my arsenal for a few seasons already and are perfect when I feel like like being a little glitzy. Sneakers are a hot shoe this summer and are being shown with shorts, skirts, dresses, and pants. This is the summer of comfort shoes!

Summer 2020 shoe trends: the square toe

high heels summer 2020

Square toes were huge in the early 2000’s, and they are back! I love this pair because the leather is soft, and the sling-back keeps them cool on hot days. They are perfect for heading out to dinner on a patio at a restaurant. I am waiting for outdoor dining to open in our area so I can wear them! I am watching everyone else get to eat outside; I am patiently waiting our turn here in Santa Clara County.

These shoes look fabulous with a skirt or dress. Love them!

Summer 2020 espadrilles

espadrilles summer 2020

Espadrilles are my favorite hot weather footwear. For summer 2020, I have two pairs; wedges and slides. These wedges are a classic and they return every summer in neutral colors, as well as seasonal hues. I feel like they are such a good investment-and they are priced under $100! I think I have already talked about these fabulous slides a lot in this post, so I won’t keep going. haha

My summer 2020 shoe capsule wardrobe is perfect for the summer 2020 season, and it encapsulates several of the hottest shoe trends. In addition, the point of a capsule wardrobe is to not purchase a lot of new items each season.

A capsule wardrobe can evolve each season, combining classic items and seasonal items which can mixed and matched. It’s always a good thing to reduce what we consume, and only invest in items we can get a lot of wear out of. These espadrille wedges are going on their third season, and are a classic hot weather shoe worth investing in. My sneakers are from previous seasons, yet they are still hot and on trend for summer 2020. The flip flops are a classic style Tory Burch carries every year. I bought this pair last year, so they too are a great investment shoe. I highly recommend purchasing items which are wearable for more than one season; preferably more than two years!

Ways to reduce plastic waste in the ocean with adidas

ways to reduce plastic waste adidas recycled plastic sneakers brands that care about environment reduce ocean plastics adidas

wearing: adidas x Missoni jacket (love this! I wear it all the time!) / black leggings / adidas backpack (also makes a great carry-on for travel-laptop fits perfectly inside!) / recycled adidas Parley running shoes (they fit perfectly! My favorite pair ever!)

One of the big environmental topics of the moment is the amount of plastics we are finding in our oceans. As you know, this is a huge problem which affects the entire global population. Our sea life, sea creatures, and oceanic health are at stake; and we cannot sit around doing nothing. We have to act!

There are so many ways to keep plastics out of our oceans. Aside from cleaning up our current mess, we need to ensure we are not adding to it. As a world, we need to come together and keep plastic waste our of our waters, and ensure we are acting responsibly with the plastic we have in circulation.

As you know, I am huge fan of adidas. Not only are they a responsible company who works hard to make fashion sustainable, they are using technology and innovation to reduce our plastic waste, recycle the plastics we have in circulation, and contribute to the clean-up of our oceans. Love that!

I am honored to partner with adidas this month to help spread the word! We all need to be aware of the importance of reducing our plastic waste and recycling the plastics we have in circulation.

Ways to reduce plastic waste in the ocean

  • Re-use plastic items such as bags and containers.
  • Bring your own bags shopping so that you won’t need a plastic bag when you go shopping.
  • Recycle unneeded plastic items.
  • Try to not purchase goods packaged in plastic. Looks for good packaged in paper, or reusable containers instead.
  • Bring a trash bag to the beach, anytime you go! Wear gloves, and pick up any plastic you see and put it in a recycling bin.
  • Find an organized beach clean up activity, and join in!
  • Purchase products made from recycled plastic and materials.
  • Get artistic! Create artwork with plastic items and display your art in your home, or donate it to a local museum or school. Or, sell your artwork and donate the proceeds to charities who focus on recycling plastic or ocean clean ups.

adidas has an entire collection in collaboration with Parley for the Oceans aptly named the adidas Parley collection! Parley for the Oceans works hard to address environmental threats to our oceans through plastic pollution. Through this collaboration, the adidas Parley collection creates sustainable footwear and apparel which are recyclable and made from recycled materials. Love!

I’m in love with my adidas Parley running shoes. Not only are they a fabulous shoe for running, walking, and working out, I can feel comforted knowing my purchase of them helped Parley for the Oceans address the plastic pollution problems our oceans face.

Inspired by my Mother with adidas

On me: Coral tie tee / black track pants (love these! Last seen here) / mint running shoes /

Can you believe Mother’s Day is almost here? This year is flying by! Mother’s Day has two meanings for me every year; it is a day when my kids celebrate me, and a day when I celebrate my own Mom. This Mother’s Day season, I wanted to share with you something important my Mom taught me; which is one of the many reasons I celebrate her!

My Father passed away when I was a baby, and as a result, it was always my Mom and I when I was growing up. So, when my Mom participated in activities, such as fitness, she used to bring me along, since I was too little to leave home alone.

I have fond memories of sitting on the side of a room while my Mom attended a yoga class. I also remember tagging along to her Belly Dancing classes; Belly Dancing was a huge fitness trend in the 1970’s, and my Mom loved it-she was really good at it too! She also attended aerobics classes at an aerobic studio, where I watched her lift colorful weights, wear colorful leotards, and jump around the room. It really looked like fun! My Mom also played tennis at a local club, took me for walks, and took me bike riding. She didn’t just get fit herself, she ensured I had plenty of active time too!

As I got older, my Mom encouraged me to participate in sports. She took me to gymnastics, ice skating, track, volleyball, and swimming classes. I competed, practiced, and had a ton of fun! When I turned ten years old, she told me I had to choose one sport in order to excel; I chose swimming.

Now, to put this in perspective, she was a single Mom who worked, and volunteered at my school. By choosing swimming, I had picked the most time consuming sport of them all. She never complained or protested; she encouraged it! My Mom dutifully took me to swim practice every day, and she also drove hours to bring me to swim meets, which lasted all weekend. By the time I was in eighth grade, I was practicing twenty-five hours per week, and going to swim meets one or two weekends per month. This was a huge commitment, and my Mom rallied. She stood outside in the rain to cheer for me at swim meets, she stood outside in thirty-degree temperatures to cheer me on and watch me swim. If it was one hundred degrees in the summer, she was out there being my biggest cheerleader too. She was always there, and I loved her for it.

My Mom was a huge inspiration for me as a small child. I loved watching her stay fit. This led to me wanting to stay fit too. She taught me proper nutrition, and the importance of fitness as a lifestyle, not just an activity or part of a schedule. Due to my Mom’s dedication to fitness, she gave me to the tools to excel as a swimmer and compete at the International level. It was an injury that ended my swimming career in college, not my mental state. As an adult, I continue to place importance on fitness, and I pass this along to my children.

As a family, we plan fitness activities, and encourage each other to participate in sports and stay fit. My kids don’t have to work at a sport and go to the Olympics, but I want to ensure they live a healthy lifestyle and continue to live a fit life; just like my Mom.

My family loves wearing adidas when we workout. My Mom is addicted to their line of athletic shoes, and my kids love all of their tee’s, sweatshirts, and shoes. I, of course, adore them! My workout wardrobe is adidas. We love staying fit together, and we wear adidas while doing it.

How has your Mom helped you learn the importance of fitness?
