The return of the pleated skirt

pleated skirts for fall fall pleated skirts fall handbag shoe trends how to wear a pleated skirt fall 2017

wearing: blue tassel earrings / Chanel lipstick / blue ruffle sleeve top / black leather and silver watch / Chanel fall nail polish / Givency bag / bold silver cuff (on major sale!!) / black metallic pleated fall skirt / blue velvet booties (so comfy!!)

Remember a couple of years ago when pleated skirt were all the rage? They seemed to disappear for one year, and now they are back! For fall 2017, pleated fall skirts are hotter then hot; and I am thrilled!

I love pleated skirts for fall because they are a flattering silhouette on almost every body type. Pleated skirts can be dressed up for dinner, the theater, church, or date night. They can also be worn casually with street sneakers, flats, or sandals for a feminine daytime look. Love that!

Two years ago, pleated skirts were being shown in solid colors, and in prints. They were usually made from a polyester fabric. For fall 2017, pleated skirts are being shown in velvet, faux suede, and thick, autumnal fabrications. This metallic skirt I am wearing in this post is made from a thin, faux suede-like fabric which feels so luxurious. Love!

These photos were taken while I was in New York for fashion week. I wore this outfit on Sunday when I attended seven shows. The shows I attended that day were Francesca Liberatore, Dan Liu, Nina Tiari, Leanne Marshall, Rinat Brodach, Vivienne Hu, and Jared Zhang. Whew! It was a full day, I am not quite sure how I squeezed in any food! Room service is a life saver during fashion week!

I’m excited about this skirt because back home, I can wear it casually with a sweater and boots during the day, or I can dress it up with a black top and high heels for evening occasions. This will be my go-to skirt for fall!

These booties also happen to be a new favorite of mine. They are really comfortable, and kept me going all day long! The velvet is soft and the heel hits my foot in the right spot to give me a bit of arch support. I am looking forward to wearing these often during fall with skirts, dresses, and jeans.

The next item on my wish list is a velvet pleated skirt. I cannot wait to find the perfect one! Fingers crossed I find one in blue or burgundy. Wouldn’t that be fabulous! What do you think of the pleated skirt trend for fall 2017? Is this one you will be wearing?

Thanks for stopping by!

XOXO

Cathy

Rain storm at fashion week

Wearing: hat (old, also love this one) / Chanel spring lipstick / ivory fringe earrings / Alexander McQueen scarf (the street style photogs loved this!)  / cozy black faux shearling jacket (on major sale!) / black tee / Gucci belt (current obsession) / destroyed boyfriend jeans (sold out, also love this pair) / Givenchy handbag / Chanel spring nail polish / black socks / silver street sneakers (under $150!!)

The forth day of New York Fashion Week, there was a crazy rain storm. I had planned to wear this beautiful floral maxi skirt with this jacket pictured above, and a black turtleneck. Alas, there was so much salt on the ground from the recent snow storm, and the puddles were so brown with dirt, I was too chicken to wear my beautiful new skirt in those conditions. I decided I would wear clothing which was machine washable, comfortable, and OK to get wet or dirty.

Surprisingly, many people wear casual clothing at fashion week. Not everyone is wearing the latest, greatest outfit. Not everyone is peacocking for the photographers, and not everyone is trying to be a runway show themselves. Therefore, when I wore this outfit, I blended into the crowd and even had my scarf snapped by photographers. Throughout the week the street style photogs were snapping pictures of my scarf. I didn’t see the photos appear anywhere, but hey, it’s fun anyway; especially since I love this scarf and have been wearing it non-stop since I purchased it in early fall 2016. Love that!

The temperatures were actually not cold on the fourth day of fashion week. They hovered in the 40’s, and the heat was cranked up inside the show venue, so wearing a short sleeve tee under my jacket was key for my overall comfort. This outfit turned out to be extremely practical for the conditions of the day, and it is also a fabulous casual look for transitioning from winter into spring as temperatures warm up. Love!

This was not a planned outfit, it was a bunch of pieces from my suitcase thrown together. Thankfully, it worked out! Since the rain was so strong, and the lighting was horrible, Kali’s hubby from In-Spades.com snapped these photos in the patio of our hotel. He did a great job compensating for the horrible lighting! I think the photos capture the essence of the weather that day.

Day four was another jam-packed day! My schedule included Marcel Ostertag, Elizabeth Kennedy, Verdad, Custo Barcelona, Leanne Marshall, Vivienne Hu, and Namilia. Normally Sunday at fashion week is on the calm side; a time to rest a little and see fewer shows than on other days-but not this season! Whew! These were great collections, I am so glad it was not a quiet day!

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you are loving fall 2017 from New York Fashion Week!

Day two of New York Fashion Week was super busy! I attended Dan Liu, LANYU, Hakam Akkaya, Concept Korea, RtA, and Chromat. After the shows, I met up with fellow GenX blogger SimplySylvia. In order to survive a busy day like this, I needed to wear something comfortable!

Thacker NYC is a fabulous clothing brand based in New York City. Thier concept is to create a capsule wardrobe which can be mixed and matched, season after season. I love how this coat, tunic/dress, and leggings were perfect paired together for fashion week. When I get back home, and start heading into the spring season, I am looking forward to separating the pieces and mixing them into other outfits. They are so versatile! Love that!

I already wore the coat before fashion week. You can see how I styled it online here. This dress/tunic is great because it can be worn as a tunic over leggings or skinny jeans. It can also be worn as a dress. It will be really cute this summer with high heel sandals for dinner on a patio! Love!

With the athleisure trend in full swing, more on that from me later in the month, these Thacker NYC leggings will be front and center. They are made from extremely high quality fabric, and are so comfortable! Love!

You can find more versatile pieces for your wardrobe by Thacker NYC online at ThackerNYC.com.

Stay tuned! I will be reworking these pieces throughout the spring and summer seasons!
